Ben Franklin said: “To succeed, jump as quickly at opportunities as you do at conclusions.” The time is now to jump at the opportunity to start a business. Scared? Of course. Especially if you have never started a business before. But you can find lots of help in many places.
Joshua Kennon on About.com provides three reasons why recessions don’t hurt small business start-ups:
- Past recessions have not had a significant negative effect on small business start-ups.
- Many big companies, including more than half the companies on the Fortune 500, started during recessions.
- Jobs created in start-up are not as volatile as those created in the general economy.
So, what are you waiting for?
If you think maybe you should wait, read the obituaries of people in your local newspaper. Look at how many are your age, or just a little older. Every week, I hear about someone having cancer, or dying from a heart attack, or having some problem that causes them to have to slow down.
My purpose is not to scare you, but life is short and if you wait until you can afford it or have time for it, you will never do it. Now, excuse me while I get back to that novel I have been promising myself I would write.
